QUALITY ASSURANCEThe Quality Assurance System ensures mill traceability, during the manufacturing process up to shipment, by way of a code stamped onto the ends of the bars.

Chromium thickness

All batches of material are monitored for:

Surface roughness Ra and Rt
Hardness of the chromium overlay
Corrosion resistance in salt spray chamber

CERTIFICATESCertificates according to UNI EN 10204/ 3.1B are always supplied

The international specification used for evaluating corrosion resistance is ISO 9227/10.289, which references three different corrosion tests:

neutral salt spray, NSS (the old ISO 3768, equivalent to the ASTM B 117)
acetic salt spray, ASS (the old ISO 3769, equivalent to ASTM B 287)
copper accelerated salt spray, CASS (the old ISO 3770, equivalent to ASTM B368)
The test chamber is always the same and the spray operates continuously. Samples are inclined at 15° from the vertical. As alternative to the ISO 9227 is sometime used the NSS with alternate cycle, according to KES 05-507-2.In this test the salt spray operates not continuously, but in cycles. After the test the samples are rinsed with water and examined according to the specification ISO 10.289 , which regulates the evaluation of the results, assigning a “rating” to the surface under examination. A “Rating 9” corresponds to 0.1% of the surface corroded. A “Rating 10” means no corrosion at all.

UNI ISO 9227
This specification, which corresponds to the international one, gives a description of the methods and the equipment to be used for corrosion tests. It presents three types of testing, progressively more aggressive. The
specification considers the neutral salt spray the most suitable testing method for evaluating a surface which is chromium plated only.


SKIVED AND ROLLER BURNISHED (OR HONED) STEEL TUBESThe Quality Assurance System ensures “traceability” during the manufacturing process, i.e. the identification of the base material through its heat number, up to shipment.

Certificates according to DIN UNI EN 10204 / 3.1 B are always supplied.

Tubes are marked on their entire length. A customer can require the heat number to be stencilled on each tube.
Each bundle is marked with a code number that allows for traceability to the original chemical analysis certificate.


The product is packed with a modern technology, using material suitable for various needs and destinations.
The standard packaging for the bars HIPERCHROMIUM® by STELMI is a white plastic sleeve with the printed characters shown in the picture.

MARKINGOn the plastic sleeve on the entire length, Stelmi ink-prints the grade, the diameter and an identification code which ensures for traceability even after cutting.

As an alternative, it is possible to protect the bars with cardboard tubes, produced by STELMI.


The cardboard tubes are produced internally in the suitable dimension by means of a specific equipment.
For the overseas shipments each bundle is placed into an aluminium-plastic bag, fully waterproof, which ensures a total protection.
